It begins with a Handel-like sinfonia. It is thought to be an early work because it does not have a recitative or chorale movement. The lyrics of the entire piece are taken from psalms. The choral piece “Der Herr denket an uns und segnet uns” consists of an introductory section “Der Herr denket an uns und segnet uns” and a fugue “Er segnet das Haus Israel, er segnet das Haus Aaron”. After the fugue, the piece returns to the opening lyrics and ends somewhat abruptly. The soprano aria “Er segnet, die den Herrn fürchten” is sung in unison with the violins as an obbligato. It is a short but memorable aria. Next, in the tenor and bass duet aria “Der Herr segne euch”, the strings and solo develop contrapuntally with a short motive including hemiola, but after the cadence, the first part of the opening lyrics are played briefly on the final note of the two measures and suddenly cut off, making for a nice ending. The final chorus “Ihr seid die Gesegneten des Herrn”, like the opening chorus, consists of an introduction and a fugue section, and the impressive way each voice calls out to each other like an echo. #baroque #bach #cantata #片山俊幸 https://excelkobo.net/bachwerke/archive/BWV0196.pdf
