Bach: Cantata No. 187 “Es wartet alles auf dich” / Gustav Leonhardt

Bach: Cantata No. 187 “Es wartet alles auf dich” / Gustav Leonhardt
The text is based on a psalm. Bach later used some movements of this piece in his Mass in G minor. The opening chorus “Es wartet alles auf dich” is polyphonic, and after a fairly long ritornello, the chorus begins to sing the words of the psalm in a fugue. It is a moving piece of music that is so typical of Bach. After a bass recitative, the alto aria “Du, Herr, du krönst allein das Jahr” is sung to the accompaniment of strings and oboe. The oboe is in unison with the first violin. It is an aria with a charming melody. This concludes the first half of the cantata.
The second half begins with the bass aria “Darum sollt ihr nicht sorgen”. The accompaniment is a unison of violins I and II. Written contrapuntally, this aria is driven to the end by a single motive. The following soprano aria “Gott versorget alles Leben” begins with a ritornello, an ornamental oboe figure. The soprano follows the same melody. After changing to a eight-third time Allegro, it returns to the original ritornello and ends. Following the soprano recitative, the cantata closes with the chorale “Gott hat die Erde zugericht” (by Vogel). #baroque #bach #cantata #片山俊幸 https://excelkobo.net/bachwerke/archive/BWV0187.pdf
