Yo-Yo Ma’s concert
Few days ago, after receiving my new passport at the passport center, I was looking forward to a Yo-Yo Ma concert. I was thinking about stopping by Starbucks to kill the three hours before showtime, when I suddenly realized I’d left my ticket for that night at home. It was right in the middle of the S-seat seats, which I’d reserved first thing in the morning, waiting for the tickets to go on sale. It was early, but the venue organizers were having a meeting, so I insisted on asking. They said they’d be able to help me if I told them at the entrance five minutes before showtime. That worked. I’d been in a similar situation before, realizing I’d forgotten my tickets after getting on the train and having to go back in the sweltering heat to get them. I probably didn’t need to go back then either. Plus, I’d purchased my tickets online, so I should have been able to see my transaction history. I opened my phone at Starbucks and saw the transaction history screen. I asked the businesswoman sitting next to me how to take a screenshot, and she kindly showed me. Now everything’s solved! That said, today, I’d forgotten my earphone strap and glasses right after I left, so I had to go back and get them. Still, I had a feeling like I’d forgotten something, and to think that it was this… I never want to get old. It was my first time seeing Yo-Yo Ma perform live up close, and it was amazing. The program featured Bach suites sandwiched between contemporary pieces. When I heard the first long tone of Suite No. 5, shivers ran through my entire body. The contemporary pieces were not difficult atonal, but rather were all pieces with beautiful melodies. The first piece, by Zhao Jiping, in particular, reminded me of erhu music I’d heard somewhere. #bach #baroque #cello #yoyoma
