Francesco Antonio Bonporti:4Concerti a quattro / I Musici

Francesco Antonio Bonporti:4Concerti a quattro / I Musici
It was about 50 years ago that I found a vinyl copy of a concerto by an unfamiliar composer named “Bonporti” at my favorite record store. The store had pretty good audio equipment, and customers could listen to it with headphones. The “concerto for four voices” was played by “I Musici”. When I heard it, I thought it was different from Vivaldi and Albinoni. On the contrary, it was different from any other music I had ever heard. I immediately bought the record and started listening to it as if I were devouring it when I got home. Bonporti has another slow movement, an so-called “introduction” before the usual second movement, the Adagio. I thought it was a unique structure. He wrote a piece called “Invention for violin,” which was apparently considered to be a work of Johann Sebastian Bach for a long time. In fact, it was apparently transcribed by Bach for his studies. #baroque #bonporti #片山俊幸
