Bach: Cantata No. 112 “Der Herr ist mein getreuer Hirt” / Nikolaus Harnoncourt

Chorale cantata based on a hymn by Wolfgang Meuslin. The first chorale fantasy, “Der Herr ist mein getreuer Hirt” consists of two cornos, two oboes d’amore, strings, and basso continuo. The soprano cantus firmus is overlapped with the Corno I. The other voices sing a counterpoint melody. The alto aria “Zum reinen Wasser er mich weist” is sung in oboe d’amore obbligato, a form that represents flowing water. Following the bass arioso and recitative, the soprano and tenor duet aria “Du bereitest für mir einen Tisch” is sung to the accompaniment of a string ensemble in a delightful dance style. As a side note, the ritornello in this aria closely resembles the theme of the first movement of Friedrich the Great’s Flute Concerto in D major. The piece closes with the chorale “Gutes und die Barmherzigkeit”. #baroque #bach #cantata #片山俊幸 https://excelkobo.net/bachwerke/archive/BWV0112.pdf
