Bach: Cantata No. 111 “Was mein Gott will, das g’scheh allzeit” / Nikolaus Harnoncourt

This is a chorale cantata based on a hymn written by Duke Albert of Prussia. The first chorale fantasy, “Was mein Gott will, das g’scheh allzeit” begins with a confident ritornellos of two-bar. The two oboes and Violin I II play the ritornellos, calling to each other in a concerto-like manner, and then the chorale enters. The soprano sings the cantus firmus, while the other voices sing the antiphonal melody in counterpoint with short note values. The ritornello which includes the sequenz, follows after each line of the chorale several more times. The bass aria “Entsetze dich, mein Herze, nicht” is sung over a strong basso ostentato that counteracts the anxiety. Following the alto recitative, the duet aria “So geh ich mit beherzten Schritten” is sung by alto and tenor over the dotted orgelpunkt, which represents the confident gait, accompanied by strings. The soprano’s recitative and arioso which are accompanied by two oboes. Then by the chorale “Noch eins, Herr, will ich bitten dich” cantata is closed. #baroque #bach #cantata #片山俊幸 https://excelkobo.net/bachwerke/archive/BWV0111.pdf
