Bach: Cantata No. 90 “Es reißet euch ein schrecklich Ende” / Gustav Leronhardt

The piece begins with the tenor aria “Es reißet euch ein schrecklich Ende”,which is dramatic with a raging string orchestra and another intense tenor melody. The alto recitative is followed by the bass aria “So löschet im Eifer der rächende Richter” in which the trumpet’s superb technique expresses the fanfare of the “Judgment”. The interplay between the trumpet and the first violin is a highlight. Max van Egmont’s singing is excellent, but one can imagine how difficult it must be to play with natural trumpet. After the tenor recitative, the piece ends quietly with the chorale “Leit uns mit deiner rechten Hand.　#baroque #bach #cantata #片山俊幸
