Bach: Cantata No. 131 “Aus der Tiefen rufe ich, Herr, zu dir” / Nikolaus Harnoncourt

Bach: Cantata No. 131 “Aus der Tiefen rufe ich, Herr, zu dir” / Nikolaus Harnoncourt
Cantata from the Mühlhausen period. The first choral piece, “Aus der Tiefen rufe ich, Herr, zu dir” begins with a performance by oboe and strings reminiscent of the adagio movement of Handel’s concerto grosso. After turning into an andante in the second half, the piece leads seamlessly to the bass and soprano duet aria “So du willst, Herr, Sünde zurechnen” with oboe obbligato. The soprano sings a cantus firmus . A short introductory chorus in adagio, “Ich harre des Herrn” is followed by the largo “Meine Seele harret”. I am not the only one who feels something Handel-like in the sequenz of the theme again. The alto and tenor aria “Meine Seele wartet auf den Herrn von einer Morgenwache” follows, with the alto singing the cantus firmus. The final chorus, “Israel hoffe auf den Herrn; denn bei dem Herrn” is constructed with a short introductory adagio followed by two times alternating allegro and adagio sections. #baroque #bach #cantata #片山俊幸
