Bach: Cantata No. 179 “Siehe zu, daß deine Gottesfurcht nicht Heuchelei sei” / Nikolaus Harnoncourt
The opening piece mamed “Concerto”, “Siehe zu, daß deine Gottesfurcht nicht Heuchelei sei” is an elaborate fugue alla breve choral in which the responding voices are presented in upside down form. Following the tenor recitative, the tenor aria “Falscher Heuchler Ebenbild” opens with a wild rousing ritornello for strings and oboes. The bass recitative is followed by the soprano aria “Liebster Gott, erbarme dich,” sung in obbligato by two oboes da caccia.
