Bach: Cantata No. 98 “Was Gott tut, das ist wohlgetan” / Gustav Leonhardt
The piece opens with the choral fantasy “Was Gott tut, das ist wohlgetan”. The instrumentation consists of two oboes, a taille (oboe da caccia), a string ensemble, and a basso continuo. The three wind instruments is overlaped on soprano, alto, and tenor each other. The tenor recitative is followed by the soprano aria “Hört, ihr Augen, auf zu weinen” in a mournful oboe obbligato. The soprano is Claus Legend of Tölzer Knabenchor. Following the alto recitative, the bass sings the aria “Meinen Jesum laß ich nicht” with unison violins in obbligato. Contrary to most expectations, the cantata ends with this bass aria. Yes, the closing chorale is omitted. It seems something to be unfinished. #baroque #bach #cantata #片山俊幸 https://excelkobo.net/bachwerke/archive/BWV0098.pdf
