Bach: Cantata No. 180 “Schmücke dich, o liebe Seele” / Gustav Leronhardt
The first chorale, “Schmücke dich, o liebe Seele,” is a heart warming choral fantasy accompanied by strings, two recorders, and two oboes. The following tenor aria “Ermuntre dich, dein Heiland klopft” is a delightful piece by flauto-traverso with its jumpy sound shapes. The soprano recitative is followed by the arioso “Ach, wie hungert mein Gemüte,” in which the cello piccolo accompanies the chorale melody with dispersed chords. Following the recitative accompagnato by alto, the soprano aria “Lebens Sonne, Licht der Sinnen” is sung in a truly joyous manner in a concerto style by solo and ritornello.
