Bach: Cantata No. 110 “Unser Mund sei voll Lachens” / Nikolaus Harnoncourt

Bach: Cantata No. 110 “Unser Mund sei voll Lachens” / Nikolaus Harnoncourt
The opening chorus, “Unser Mund sei voll Lachens” is a celebratory composition with three trumpets, timpani, three oboes, two flutes, bassoon, string orchestra, and a four-voice chorus. The vocal part, the middle section of the French overture, is divided into tutti and solos, and is a laborious work of mixed hands. The first aria is “Ihr Gedanken und ihr Sinnen” by the tenor, with two flauto traverso obbligato. After the bass recitative, the alto aria “Ach Herr! was ist ein Menschenkind” is obbligato with oboe d’amore. It is sung by the countertenor Paul Esswood. This was followed by the soprano-tenor duet “Ehre sei Gott in der Hohe”. The bass aria “Wacht Auf! Ihr Adern Und Ihr Glieder” is accompanied by trumpet and string orchestra. Finally, the chorale “Alleluja! Gelobt sei Gott” ends the piece solemnly. #baroque #bach #cantata #片山俊幸
