Bach: Cantata No. 99 “Was Gott tut, das ist wohlgetan” / Nikolaus Harnoncourt
The first piece, a chorale fantasy “Was Gott tut, das ist wohlgetan” is truly heartwarming music. The peaceful melody played by the flute, oboe d’amore, and string ensemble is very pleasant and enriching. The soprano cantus firmus is overlaped by a corno. This is a piece that demands virtuosity from the flute. Following the bass recitative, the tenor aria “Erschüttre dich nur nicht, verzagte Seele” is sung by the obbligato flute. It is an impressive aria with descending and ascending chromatic scales. The alto recitative is followed by the soprano and alto duet aria “Wenn des Kreuzes Bitterkeiten” another impressive piece in which the flute and oboe d’amore perform a fascinating melody over a staccato basso continuo. The cantata ends with the chorale “Was Gott tut, das ist wohlgetan”. #baroque #bach #cantata #片山俊幸 https://excelkobo.net/bachwerke/archive/BWV0099.pdf
