Astrud Gilberto / Jazz Around Midnight
This is the kind of record you want to listen to on the beach on a nice day. The title track sung in her ennui voice, “Fly Me to the Moon”, “Non-Stop to Brazil”, “My Foolish Heart” and “Only Trust Your Heart” with Stan Getz are all on this record. Bossa nova is a Brazilian music that developed from samba in the mid-1950s, but it was so compatible with jazz that jazz musicians began to take it up all the time. The trend was carried over to Sergio Mendes in the 1960s. Many Japanese, in particular, are still fans of this music (I am one of them, of course). #jazz #片山俊幸
