Charles Mingus / Pithecanthropus Erectus

Charles Mingus / Pithecanthropus Erectus
In many ways, this music breaks the boundaries of jazz. The title track, which is said to represent the process of human evolution through music, consists of four parts: “Evolution”, “Superiority Complex”, “Decline” and “Destruction”. After an impressive opening by the bass, the two saxophones, alto and tenor, battle it out in a counterpoint-like intertwining. The second piece, “Foggy Day” is a descriptive piece, depicting a congested road on a foggy day. Mingus’ bass solo is a highlight. #jazz #片山俊幸
