Bach: Cantata No. 79 “Gott der Herr ist Sonn und Schild” / Gustav Leonhardt
The chorus “Gott der Herr ist Sonn und Schild” begins with an impressive series of timpani strikes, followed by the alto aria “Gott ist unser Sonn und Schild”, sung by Paul Esswood with the oboe obbligato. The third chorale, “Nun danket alle Gott” is also sung with the combination of timpani and horns. The bass recitative is followed by the duet-aria “Gott, ach Gott, verlass die Deinen nimmermehr” sung by soprano and bass.
