Bach: Cantata No. 148 “Bringet dem Herrn Ehre seines Namens” / Nikolaus Harnoncourt

Bach: Cantata No. 148 “Bringet dem Herrn Ehre seines Namens” / Nikolaus Harnoncourt
The choral piece “Bringet dem Herrn Ehre seines Namen” titled “Concerto” opens with a fugal instrumental development to which the chorus responds. After the second theme from “betet an den Herrn im heiligen Schmuck” is presented, the piece ends by returning to the first theme. The trumpet is used as a soloist, and the oboe, oboe d’amore, and oboe da caccia are overlaid on the strings. The tenor aria “Ich eile, die Lehren des Lebens zu hören” is sung by a flowing melody with the violin obbligato. Following the alto recitative accompagnato, the alto aria “Mund und Herze steht dir offen” is sung by the oboe, oboe d’amore, oboe da caccia, and bassoon basso continuo. As same as of the aria from Cantata No. 26, “Ach wie flüchtig, ach wie nichtig”, this combination of reed instruments has a somewhat humorous sound. The cantata ends with the chorale “Amen zu aller Stund” following the tenor recitative. #baroque #bach #cantata #片山俊幸
