Bach: Cantata No. 155 “Mein Gott, wie lang, ach lange?” / Nikolaus Harnoncourt
A work from the Weimar period with a text by Salomon Frank. The piece begins with a accompanied recitative with the strings and soprano titled “Concerto”. The following aria “Du mußt glauben, du mußt hoffen” (You must believe, you must hope), a duet aria by alto and tenor, has a very attractive bassoon obbligato. After a bass recitative, the soprano aria “Wirf, mein Herze, wirf dich noch” features a dotted rhythm by the string ensemble that subtly contrasts with the triplets of the soprano solo.
