The instrumentation consists of three trumpets, timpani, two oboes, two oboes d’amore, taille, and basso continuo. The opening chorus, “Es erhub sich ein Streit” starts in fugue, in which the theme from bass to soprano, without the usual instrumental introduction. The only lyrics in this section are “Es erhub sich ein Streit”. The instrumental accompaniment adds to the festive atmosphere in places. In the middle section, the rest of the lyrics are sung at once, and then the piece ends with a da capo back to the beginning. Following the bass recitative, the soprano aria “Gott schickt uns Mahanaim zu” is sung in obbligato by two oboes d’amore, and the three voices develop the theme on equal footing. Following the tenor recitative, the tenor aria “Bleibt, ihr Engel, bleibt bei mir!” is sung on a gentle siciriano rythm. The chorale melody is interjected in by a trumpet.
