Bach: Cantata No. 45 “Es ist dir gesagt, Mensch, was gut ist” / Gustav Leonhardt
This is a large piece. The first chorale is a work of overwhelming power in which instrumental music and chorus imitate and intertwine with each other. The tenor recitative is followed by the tenor aria “Weiss ich Gottes Rechte”. Accompaniment by string ensemble and basso continuo. This is the end of Part 1. The fourth piece, the first of Part 2, begins with the bass arioso “Es werden viele zu mir sagen an jenem Tage”. This is a lively and large-scale arioso accompanied by string orchestra and basso continuo. The next aria without recitative is “Wer Gott bekennt aus wahrem Herzensgrund”, a beautiful aria with flauto-traverso obbligato. The performance by Frans Brüggen is very “Frans Brüggen-like” and is always good to me to listen.
