Bach: Cantata No. 9 “Es ist das Heil uns kommen her” / Gustav Leonhardt
With flute, oboe d’amore, string orchestra and basso continuo, the work begins with a laborious chorale in which the soprano sings the chorale melody and the alto, tenor and bass follow the soprano with their own imitative melodies. After the bass recitative, the third aria “Wir waren schon zu tief gesunken” by the tenor is beautiful with a sorrowful melody. The bass recitative was again followed by the soprano/alto duet aria “Herr, du siehst statt guter Werke”. The flute and oboe d’amore intertwine in a four-degree canon throughout. In addition to this, the soprano and alto also responded in canon, which is a unique counterpoint of Bach. The bass sings the recitative again, and the piece closes with a harmonic chorale. In this cantata, the soprano solo is sung by the boy soprano of “The Regensburger Domspatzen” (No name in liner notes). The chorus is the “King’s College Choir”. #baroque #bach #cantata #片山俊幸
