Bach: Cantata No. 182 “Himmelskonig, sei willkommen” / Nikolaus Harnoncourt
This is a cantata from Bach’s Weimar period, composed for “Palm Sunday” on March 25, 1714. The first sonata has a pastoral atmosphere. The second piece is a chorus fugue in da capo form. This is followed by recitative and three arias. The climax is probably the alto aria “Leget euch dem Heiland unter” in the fifth piece, the only da capo aria among the three arias. but it is a heavy piece. The low-motion basso continuo seem to add to the gloom. The seventh piece is a fugue development of the chorale “Jesu、deine Passion ist mir lauter Freude” theme.
