Bach: Cantata No. 86 “Wahrlich, wahrlich, ich sage euch” / Nikolaus Harnoncourt
The piece begins with the bass aria “Wahrlich, wahrlich, ich sage euch” written in fugue. The bass sings the words of the gospel of Jesus. This is followed by the alto aria “Ich will doch wohl Rosen brechen” with a decorative melody and arpeggiated violin solo obbligato. The third piece is the chorale “Und was der ewig gütig Gott” (Georg Grünwald’s hymn melody), sung by a soprano with two oboes d’amore obbligato. The tenor recitative is followed by the tenor aria “Gott hilft gewiß” accompanied by strings and basso continuo.
