Bach: Cantata No. 209 “Non sa che sia dolore” / Masaaki Suzuki, Bach Collegium Japan
A fascinating piece of repertoire for flutists, it is one of two cantatas Bach wrote in Italian. The first Sinfonia is in the typical Vivaldi ritornello form, perhaps adapted from a lost flute concerto. The recitative is followed by the aria “Parti pur e con dolore” with an attractive melancholic melody in the soprano over the obbligato by the flute. After a major middle section, the first melody is repeated in da capo. Following the recitative, the final aria “Ricetti gramezza e pavento” is accompanied by flute and string ensemble. The piece is a delightful piece with characteristic Lombardy rhythms (inverted dotted notes) scattered throughout. #baroque #bach #cantata #片山俊幸
