This CD is a collection of cantatas from Bach’s Arnstadt – Mühlhausen period (1703-1708). Mühlhausen was the town where Bach married his first wife, Maria Barbara. In this town he took a position as organist at St. Blasius Church in 1707. The four soloists who sing the four cantatas written around this time are Emma Kirkby, Michael Chance, Charles Daniels, and Peter Harvey. The instruments are performed by the Purcell Quartet and other famous British musicians. Bach’s cantatas of this period consisted only of arias including duets, ariososos, choruses and chorales, without recitative. The chorales are all sung by one soloist for one part, so the sharpness of the tone is outstanding. #baroque #bach #cantata #片山俊幸
