Bach: Cantata No. 157 “Ich lasse dich nicht, du segnest mich denn” / Gustav Leonhardt

Bach: Cantata No. 157 “Ich lasse dich nicht, du segnest mich denn” / Gustav Leonhardt
The three pieces after Cantata No. 157 are conducted by Gustav Leonhardt. I don’t think I am the only one who feels that the wind players are more substantial than in Harnoncourt’s group. The piece begins with the aria “Ich lasse dich nicht, du segnest mich denn” a duet aria of tenor and bass accompanied by flute, oboe, and violin. The flute is played by Ricardo Kanji or Walter van Hauwe, I am not sure which one it is, but the performance is instantly recognizable as the “Brüggen school”. The second aria “Ich halte meinen Jesum feste” of tenor is accompanied by an oboe d’amore obbligato. Following the tenor recitative accompanied by strings (Leonhardt used flute and oboe for the violin part), the bass aria “Ja, ja, ich halte Jesum feste” is sung in obbligato with flute and violin. The aria turns into a recitative near the end, then changes to an arioso, then back to a recitative, and finally ends with an aria. The final chorale is “Meinen Jesum lass ich nicht” writen by Christian Keymann. In addition to Tölzer Knabenchor, Collegium Vocale, Gent seems to have added reinforcement in the recordings after this piece, but it does not sound strange at all. #baroque #bach #cantata #片山俊幸
