Bill Evans, Jeremy Steig / What’s New?

Jeremy Steig overcame right facial paralysis caused by an automobile accident, which is fatal for a flutist, and developed a unique playing style. The noisy “breath sound”, which is usually cited as a “drawback” of the flute, shines through here as a rather strong individuality. The interplay with the Bill Evans Trio, which featured Eddie Gomez as bassist at the time, was truly tense. This is my favorite album containing standards such as “What’s New” and “Autumn Leaves”, the title track, and “So What” made famous by Miles Davis. #jazz #片山俊幸
