Bach: Cantata No. 6 “Bleib bei uns, denn es will Abend werden” / Nikolaus Harnoncourt
The opening chorus, “Bleib bei uns, denn es will Abend werden,” begins with an atmosphere similar to that of the tragic chorus “Ruht Wohl, Ihr Heiligen Gebeine” from the John Passion. The orchestra consists of strings, two oboes, oboe da caccia, and basso continuo. The second half of the movement turns into a fugue in four beats, and after the development, returns to the three beats of the beginning of the movement. In the second movement, the alto aria “Hochgelobter Gottessohn” is a da capo aria sung with a very heartwarming beautiful oboe da caccia obbligato and pizzicato basso continuo. In the next chorale, “Ach bleib bei uns, Herr Jesu Christ,” the soprano sings the chorale melody in violoncello piccolo obbligato. Following the bass recitative, the tenor sings the aria “Jesu, laß uns auf dich sehen” with string accompaniment. The final chorale is “Beweis dein Macht, Herr Jesu Christ”. #baroque #bach #cantata #片山俊幸
