Bach: Cantata No. 17 “Wer Dank opfert, der preiset mich” / Nikolaus Harnoncourt
The piece is divided into two parts. The first movement is the choral piece “Wer Dank opfert, der preiset mich”. After an introduction for instruments, chorus starts in fugue. The orchestra consists of strings, two oboes, and basso continuo. The lyrics are from the Old Testament Psalms. The recitative is followed by the soprano aria “Herr, deine Güte reicht so weit” is sung in obbligato by the first and second violins. Here ends the short first half. In the second half, after the tenor recitative, the tenor aria “Welch Übermaß der Güte schenkst du mir” is sung to the accompaniment of a string ensemble.
