Bach: Cantata No. 67 “Halt im Gedächtnis Jesum Christ” / Gustav Leonhardt

Bach: Cantata No. 67 “Halt im Gedächtnis Jesum Christ” / Gustav Leonhardt
Cantata for the first Sunday after Easter, first performed on April 16, 1724. The first chorus, “Halt im Gedächtnis Jesum Christ” is accompanied by strings, corno da tirarsi, flauto traverso, two oboes d’amore, and basso continuo. The opening motif of the chorale “O Lamm Gottes, unschuldig, O innocent Lamb of God” by the corno da tirarsi (slide trumpet) is repeated throughout the entire piece by the other parts, giving the piece a sense of unity. The second piece aria, “Mein Jesus ist erstanden” (Tenor Aria), is one of my favorites, with its charming unison of traverso, oboe d’amore, and violin. The traverso in this cantata is played by Bart Kuiken. The alto recitative leads to the chorale “Erschienen ist der herrlich Tag” and then to the alto recitative again, both in attacca. The following bass aria “Friede sei mit euch”, in which the time signature and tempo change frequently, and the soprano, alto, and tenor choruses join in three times during the piece. The aria section is accompanied by a flauto traverso and two oboes d’amore in a gentle tone, while the chorus is accompanied by an aggressive string ensemble. The cantata ends with the chorale “Du Friedefürst, Herr Jesu Christ. #baroque #bach #cantata #片山俊幸
