Bach: Cantata No. 84 “Ich bin vergnügt mit meinem Glücke” / Nikolaus Harnoncourt
This is a solo cantata for soprano. The performance by Wilhelm Wiedl (Tölzer Knabenchor) is very good. The melody of the first aria “Ich bin vergnügt mit meinem Glücke” is so beautiful that it brings tears to my eyes. The interplay of the oboe’s obbligato and the soprano’s solo Sequenz is very sad. As many of you may have read in my previous posting, “About Bach’s Sequenz” Bach often used an exquisite number of Sequenz, 2.5 times. In this aria, however, Bach uses only two times. This is from bar 9 to bar 12 of the oboe solo.
After the recitative, the aria “Ich esse mit Freuden mein weniges Brot” begins. The oboe and violin begin to play a delightful melody with a six-degree leap, a change from the first piece, and then the soprano imitates the theme . Following the recitative with strings, the work ends quietly with the four-voice chorale “Ich leb indes in dir vergnüget”. This is one of my favorite cantatas in “Das Kantatenwerk”. #baroque #bach #cantata #片山俊幸
