Arcangelo Corelli: Op.1~6 (complete works) / Pavlo Beznosiuk & The Avison Ensemble
The complete works of Corelli by the Avison Ensemble conducted by Pavlo Beznosiuk. The trio sonatas are grouped with “Church Sonatas (Op.1 and Op.3)”, and “Chamber Sonatas (Op.2 and Op.4)”, each in the same order as in the Corelli’s score. Compared to the disorderly order in which the Purcell Quartet recorded their music, these CDs are orderly and easy to listen to while looking at the score. The Op.5 Violin Sonatas are especially fine, with various basso continuo by Richard Tunnicliffe (cello), Paula Chateauneuf (archlute and guitar), and Roger Hamilton (harpsichord and organ). The variations on the gavotte in No. 10 and No.11 are noteworthy. As for the Gavotte No.10, Giuseppe Tartini published 38 variations entitled “L’Arte Dell’ Arco” (The Technique of the Bow). In this CD, Pavlo Beznosiuk attempts to make his own variations on the gavotte of No. 10, which is a truly wonderful job. The gavotte of No.11 is a variation by the English composer Matthew Duberg. Finally, the Op.6 concerto grosso collection is a masterful performance that is well organized and well balanced. #baroque #corelli #片山俊幸
