The Art of Fugue / Emerson String Quartet / Accademia Bizantina, Ottavio Dantone / Amsterdam Loeki Stardust Quartet
There are many legendary recordings of this music by Bach, including Gustav Leonhardt, Helmut Walcha, and Ton Koopman. And even now, new recordings are appearing one after another. Among them, I would like to introduce a few that have caught my attention recently. The first one is the Emerson String Quartet. This ensemble is wonderful. The fast tempo and the way it pulls you along is just delightful. The second one, by Ottavio Dantone and Accademia Bizantina, is performed on ancient instruments, including harpsichord, organ, and string orchestra. New ideas can be seen everywhere, such as switching instruments within a single piece, or using the organ and harpsichord at the same time. The last one is recorded by the Amsterdam Loeki Stardust Quartet. The Art of Fugue with the Just intonation (genuine harmony) by recorders is exceptional. This must be also one of the masterful performance that expresses Bach’s deep world to the fullest. #baroque #bach #片山俊幸
