“Concord” / Modern Jazz Quartet

“Concord” / Modern Jazz Quartet
The Modern Jazz Quartet is a clash of two personalities: John Lewis (piano), who is deeply devoted to Bach, and Milt Jackson, an outstanding vibraphonist, who has developed a style unlike any other combo. The quartet is well known for its intelligent playing that incorporates elements of Baroque music, such as fugues. In fact, they are so particular about the expressive form of fugue that they develops “Concord” in a fugue manner. Later they released a record in homage to Bach called “Blues on Bach” and performed an original fugue (“Little David’s Fugue”) on the album “Place Vendome” with the chorus group the “Swingle Singers”. Their original song, “Django,” also uses a chord progression common to the Baroque period, which is harmonized with the Blue Note to create a unique, lofty atmosphere. #baroque #bach #片山俊幸
