The Oboe in Berlin, The Oboe in Dresden / Xenia Löffler
No one has ever be able to control the baroque oboe with such mastery, I take my hat off to her performance. I have long thought that Emanuel Bach’s sonata is the greatest oboe sonata. Although there is only one oboe sonata, I feel that all of the flute sonatas combined cannot compare to this one. Xenia Leffler’s performance of this piece completely captivated me from the very first note. The melancholic melodies of the final movement, the variations, bring tears to my eyes. The other disc begins with Vivaldi. This is another oboe sonata masterpiece. Fasch, Telemann, Handel, and others. Why are there so many good pieces for oboe? Flute players are jealous. #baroque #oboe #片山俊幸
