Corelli: Concerto Grosso Op. 6 / Modo Antiquo, Federico Maria Sardelli etc.
Arcangelo Corelli perfected the form of the concerto grosso, in which the concertino in trio sonata form is contrasted with the ripieno in string ensemble form. Op. 6 was the last collection of works published by Corelli and, along with his other works, is a masterpiece of high perfection. However, there are less good records of this piece, perhaps because of its rather simple instrumentation. Thugh among them, I like the CDs by Europa Galante conducted by Fabio Biondi and by Musica Amphion conducted by Pieter-Jan Belder. On the other hand, the most successful recording using wind instruments to the ripieno as appropriate is Modo Antiquo conducted by Federico Maria Sardelli. In this CD oboes, trumpets, and recorders are used in unison with ripieno violins. #baroque #corelli #片山俊幸
