Pergolesi: Stabat Mater / Tizian Geyer, Sven Wagner
The most famous Stabat Mater sung by boy soprano is by Sebastian Hennig & René Jacobs. Another CD is by Jonah Schenkel & Alex Potter. Both are collaborations with countertenors, but it is the performances by boy soprano and boy alto that I would like to introduce here: the solos by Tizian Geyer and Sven Wagner from Knabenchor der Ckhorakademie Dortmund are nonvibrato and unobtrusive. And yet the long-note messa di voce works well, and the dynamics are solid. Those who are used to hearing this piece performed by an overly emotional female soprano will find the performance on this CD refreshing. I urge you to give it a listen. The middle movement “Fac, ut ardeat cor meum” and the last movement “Quando corpus morietur” (fugue) are sung by the chorus. #baroque #pergolesi #boysoprano #treble #片山俊幸
