Leclair: Scylla and Glaucus / John Eliot Gardiner, English Baroque Soloists, and others
I had no idea that Leclair had written an opera. It is a magnificent five-act opera with a long prologue. When one thinks of Leclerc, Italian-style violin sonatas and violin concertos immediately come to mind, but this work is written in the French style, especially in the style of Rameau. It is based on Greek mythology, and is filled with French arias, ballets, and choruses. The orchestration is characterized by the use of musettes. The recordings are in addition to the Gardiner disc, Sébastien d’Hérin and György Vashegyi’s one. #baroque #Leclair #opera #片山俊幸
