“Les Sylvains” / Shigeo Mito

“Les Sylvains” / Shigeo Mito
I would like to introduce a performance by an old friend of mine, the lute player Shigeo Mito. He is a man who went to Spain by himself and studied under the masters Jose Miguel Moreno and Hopkinson Smith. I am a great admirer of his theorbo, and I would like to introduce a CD that uses that instrument. It is a collection of music by Robert de Visee, Alessandro Piccinini and Giovanni Girolamo Capsberger. The title “Les Sylvains” is taken from a Couperin’s piece, and the version arranged by de Visee is the one most often performed. I like French Baroque lutes and often listen to also Gallott, Gaultier, Mouton, etc. I think he has a great sense for the music of these composers. #baroque #theorbo #片山俊幸
