The History of the Solo Flute – Pan’s Flute: A 400-year Journey of the Flute / Masahiro Arita
In 1998, Arita recorded “la Flute De Pan: Portrait Of The Flute And Its Music”. This time, he released “The History of the Solo Flute” in the form of a continuation of the concept of that time. This album is a collection of only unaccompanied pieces from the Renaissance to the present day, using flutes from the period in which the pieces were written. The album features the partita of Sebastian Bach and the sonata of Emanuel Bach, with pieces by Jean-Féry Rebel, Giovanni Bassano, Johann Joachim Quantz, Johannes Donjon, Michel Blavet, Claude Debussy, and others, as well as Arita’s own compositions and Takemitsu’s contemporary works. The title piece, “Pan’s Flute (Syrinx)” is placed second to last, and Jacques-Martin Hotteterre’s preludes are placed at the beginning, end, and middle of the disc. It is indeed a thughtful composition. Personally, I was deeply impressed by Arita’s dynamic performance of Emanuel Bach’s sonata. #baroque #bach #片山俊幸
