Michel Lambert: Leçons de Ténèbres / Marc Mauillon, and others
Marc Mauillon. The moment I heard this man sing “Leçons de Ténèbres”, I was suddenly reminded of the chanson singer of yesteryear, Charles Aznavour. I am sure that many people my age would recall the same thing. He sings as he speaks. Both have this in common. Since I have not seen the score, I am not certain whether the ornamental sounds that color the music on this CD are “written” or due to the esprit of the performers. However, the ornamentation played in soft tones enriches the entire piece. The instrumentalists who take the sides also play wonderfully. This is the world’s first recording of this piece, and I look forward to the appearance of players who will take up this piece in the future.
Marc Mauillon (baritone)
Myriam Rignol (viola da gamba)
Thibaut Roussel (Teorbo)
Marouan Mankar-Bennis (Harpsichord, Organ)
