Bach: Cantata No. 77 “Du sollt Gott, deinen Herren, lieben” / Gustav Leonhardt
The piece begins with the chorus “Du sollt Gott, deinen Herren, lieben”. The tromba da Tirarsi used in this piece is a slide trumpet. The melody of Martin Luther’s chorale “Dies sind die heilgen Zehn Gebot” is played meaningfully by the trumpet, which is followed by a basso continuo passage with doubled note value. This is an elaborate structure that can be found in many of Bach’s compositions. After the bass recitative, the soprano aria “Mein Gott, ichliebe dich von Herzen” is sung with great emotion by Knabenchor Hanover’s Detlef Bratschke, accompanied by two oboes. Following the tenor recitative, “Ach, es bleibt in meiner Liebe” is an alto aria sung with trumpet obbligato. The piece concludes with the chorale “Ach Gott, vom Himmel sieh darein”. #baroque #bach #cantata #片山俊幸
