Bach: Cantata No. 176 “Es ist ein trotzig und verzagt Ding” / Gustav Leonhardt

Bach: Cantata No. 176 “Es ist ein trotzig und verzagt Ding” / Gustav Leonhardt
Cantata for Trinity Sunday with text by Christiana Mariana von Ziegler, instrumentation of two oboes, oboe da caccia, and strings. The chorus “Es ist ein trotzig und verzagt Ding” begins with a long fugue theme, which is entered by bass, tenor, alto, and soprano, in that order. The instrumental sections are relatively added freely their own melodies. Following the alto recitative, the soprano sings the aria “Dein sonst hell beliebter Schein” with the accompaniment of the string orchestra. A delightful piece with a gavotte rhythm. The cadenza melody is memorable too. After the bass recitative and arioso, the alto aria “Ermuntert euch, furchtsam und schüchterne Sinne” is sung by obbligato of two oboes and oboe da caccia unison of rare cases. The piece closes with the chorale “Auf daß wir also allzugleich” by Paul Gerhardt. #baroque #bach #cantata #片山俊幸 https://excelkobo.net/bachwerke/archive/BWV0176.pdf
