The devil called “Explorer Patcher”
I have written favorably about a third-party app called Explorer Patcher before.
★The reason why I decided to recommend Windows 11
At this point, Explorer Patcher was definitely the “ideal software”, I won’t deny it. However, the situation changed in an unexpected direction after that. I think many people will call something to your mind after reading this far. Yes, Explorer Patcher had a fatal bug! This bug is exactly the kind of bug that the word “fatal” fits perfectly. It suddenly appears with “Windows update”. If you update Windows with Explorer Patcher installed, Windows will crash. To be more specific, the update will be completed and the PC will restart, but Windows will never start up again. The eerie “black screen” will continue to tick away time forever… A nightmarish moment has arrived.
I took my PC to the repair shop twice, and ended up spending 40,000 yen in total. The process that the PC repair shop performed was to restore the system to the state before the Windows update. That was the first time I saw the devilish nature of Explorer Patcher! A PC with Explorer Patcher installed should not be updated! I will tell you what measures I took from then on.
I did not uninstall Explorer Patcher. I never thought about uninstalling this software with such a “convenient” function. Instead, I decided not to update Windows. First, open “Computer Management”. Then, double-click [Services and Applications]-[Services]-[Windows Update]-[Startup type] to Disable-[Start] button-[Apply]-[OK]. Now “Windows Update” should be “Running-Disabled”.
There is more to do. Select the longest deferral in [Settings]-[Windows Update]-[Pause updates]. Then, at the top of the screen, you should see “Updates are paused until 202*/**/**”. If you feel that the problematic “202*/**/**” is approaching, extend it again. If you continue doing this, your PC will never be updated. This is the necessary method to continue using Explorer Patcher forever.
Windows on my PC recently crashed, and I went through a hellish few weeks from the end of this year to the New Year, doing a clean install of Windows, restoring the system, and restoring the D: drive. Should I take this opportunity to continue using “Explorer Patcher” in the future? I am now being forced to make a decision.
