Bach: Cantata No. 23 “Du wahrer Gott und Davids Sohn” / Gustav Leronhardt
The duet aria “Du wahrer Gott und Davids Sohn” begins with a truly sad oboe duet. When the soprano and alto begin to sing another sad melody, one is filled with an inexpressible emotion. The singing by Walter Gampert (Tölzer Knabenchor) and Paul Esswood is a perfect rendition of this song. After the tenor recitative accompagnato (the chorale melody is overlaid by the first violin and oboe II in the ) comes “Aller Augen warten, Herr” in which the choral part and the duet part (tenor and bass) take turns. The last chorale, “Christe, du Lamm Gottes” begins with an adagio accompanied by oboes and string ensemble, and then sung in andante two times with different harmonies, finally ending with an amen cadence. #baroque #bach #cantata #片山俊幸
