Bach: Cantata No. 85 “Ich bin ein guter Hirt” / Nikolaus Harnoncourt
The piece opens with the bass aria “Ich bin ein guter Hirt”. “ich” refers to Jesus. The melancholy ritornello of the oboe and string ensemble is a haunting piece of music. The second aria, “Jesus ist ein guter Hirt” is also a haunting aria with a charming cello piccolo obbligato intertwined with the alto. Next soprano aria “Der Herr ist mein getreuer Hirt” is played joyfully the ornamented chorale melody by two oboes and a soprano. The tenor recitative Accompagnato is followed by the tenor aria “Seht, was die Liebe tut”. Violins I and II and violas play unison obbligato in this rhythmic piece in the style of a pastorale dance. The piece ends with the chorale “Ist Gott mein Schutz und treuer Hirt”. #baroque #bach #cantata #片山俊幸
