Bach: Cantata No. 177 “Ich ruf zu dir, Herr Jesu Christ” / Nikolaus Harnoncourt
This cantata consists of two oboes (changed to oboe da caccia in the aria), solo violin, solo bassoon, and string ensemble. The first piece is the chorus “Ich ruf zu dir, Herr Jesu Christ,” a choral fantasy in which the soprano voice is intermittently interrupted by a chorale melody. The alto and lower voices sing a free imitation melody. The first aria is sung by the alto, and its introspective melody and harmony are impressive. The bass bass repeats the ostentato bass ten times with modulations. The alto soloist is Panajotis Iconomou of the Tölzer Knabenchor. The soprano aria “Verleih, daß ich aus Herzensgrund” is sung with the oboe da caccia in an enchanting obbligato. The soprano soloist is Helmut Wittek of the Tölzer Knabenchor, and both of these singers have been very active since the final stage of the recording of the Telefunken complete Bach cantatas. The tenor aria “Laß mich kein Lust noch Furcht von dir” is a bright and cheerful piece, sung by the solo violin and solo bassoon in obbligato. The piece closes with the chorale “Ich lieg im Streit und widerstreb”. #baroque #bach #cantata #片山俊幸
