Bach: Cantata No. 75 “Die Elenden sollen essen” / Gustav Leonhardt

Bach: Cantata No. 75 “Die Elenden sollen essen” / Gustav Leonhardt
A long cantata in two parts, written for Trinity Sunday and first performed on May 30, 1723 in St.Nikolas Church in Leipzig. The first piece, “Die Elenden sollen essen, dass sie satt Werden.” begins with a melancholy oboe melody and choral bargaining, which turns into a lively fugue in the second half. Following the bass recitative, the tenor aria “Mein Jesus soll mein alles sein” is a homophonic da capo aria with oboe and string accompaniment. The tenor recitative is followed by the soprano aria “Ich nehme mein Leiden mit Freuden auf mich” with a mournful oboe d’amore and good performance by Knabenchor Hanover’s Markus Klein. Following the soprano recitative, the first part ends with the chorale “Was Gott tut, das ist wohlgetan”.
The second part opens with a sinfonia. In this piece, the trumpet plays the chorale melody over the string ensemble. Next comes the alto recitative, followed by the alto aria “Jesus macht mich geistlich reich,” sung with obligato of unison by the violins. After the bass recitative, the bass sings the aria “Mein Herze glaubt undliebt” with strings and trumpet brilliant obbligato. Next comes the tenor recitative, and the piece closes with the chorale “Was Gott tut, das ist wohlgetan” again. #baroque #bach #cantata #片山俊幸
