Bach: Cantata No. 1 “Wie schön leuchtet der Morgenstern” / Nikolaus Harnoncourt

Bach: Cantata No. 1 “Wie schön leuchtet der Morgenstern” / Nikolaus Harnoncourt
This chorale cantata is based on the melody and lyrics of the hymn “Wie schön leuchtet der Morgenstern” by Philip Nicolai, also the author of the chorale “Wachet auf, ruft uns die Stimme” (There is a voice calling you to wake up). The first chorale, “Wie schön leuchtet der Morgenstern,” is playd by two horns, two oboes da caccia, two violins, string ensemble and basso continuo, with the soprano singing the chorale melody and other voices singing the counter-melody. Following the tenor recitative, the soprano aria “Erfüllet, ihr himmlischen göttlichen Flammen” is an oboe da caccia obbligato with lyrics from hymn verse 3. Following the bass recitative, the tenor aria “Unser Mund und Ton der Saiten” is sung by two violins and string orchestra with basso continuo and the words of hymn verse 5. The final chorale, “Wie bin ich doch so herzlich froh,” is playd by all instruments and the chorus with melody of choral, with words and from hymn verse 6. #baroque #bach #cantata #片山俊幸
