Bach: Cantata No. 158 “Der Friede sei mit dir” / Gustav Leonhardt
This is one of the three solo cantatas for bass. Following the recitative, a slightly longer da capo aria “Welt, ade, ich bin dein müde” begins with a sweet and lovely violin obligato. The bass sings a longing for heaven, and in the middle of the piece, a chorale melody by the soprano and oboe in unison is overlaid. It is somewhat reminiscent of the first movement of Handel’s A major trio sonata. That is one of my favorite arias. After a recitative that turns into an arioso in the second half, the piece closes with a chorale “Hier ist das rechte Osterlamm”. The soloist is Max van Egmond. #baroque #bach #cantata #片山俊幸
